È di questi giorni la notizia che George Hotz (colui che sbloccò l’iPhone), è riuscito a penetrare i sistemi di sicurezza di una Ps3 aprendo di fatto la strada per la modifica. Il giovane che sul web si fa chiamare Geohot afferma di essere riuscito a bypassare la protezione offerta dal Sony Hypervisor.
Grazie a questo bypass è riuscito a guadagnarsi un accesso diretto sia in lettura che in scrittura della memoria della Ps3, inoltre per evitare che la sony rilasci una patch per tappare la falla ha deciso di non rivelare nessun dettaglio, ecco le dichiarazioni rilasciate da quest’ultimo:
I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I´ve also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.
